As we descended to ground level, it proved to be an emotional and spirited holiday for Mom and me. Fortunately, Tim was seated between us in the airplane, so he could support us when the tears were rolling on our faces. Despite I have never been here before, it felt this unique vibe of coming home to the land of my dad, my mum, and my roots altogether. Mum spoke to dad's ashes in her luggage: Pa, you're home now...
Whew, what a massive chaos upon arrival. First we had to pay our visa's for Us$25 each, and we need to buy another one when we come back from Australia, sadly enough (we asked some officials). First you need to pay the visa, which means queuing in a line. Then your visa needs to be approved, in which you need to queue a different line, which reached almost the back of the terminal - figuratively speaking. Along with your visa, you were required to lodge your ID Details, First stay etc. Felt like Australia, although less organized... then we had to go to the bagage reclaim, where we didn't have any trouble. Since we brought cheese and chocolate, our luggage was required for a quickscan in the red line. In here, fortunately the rules aren't as strictly observed as in Australia, but they still keep an eye on you.
Outside we felt this warm wind in our face again and we were greeted by Tante Melly, Oom Ecim and their son Lucky too. Unfortunately our transfer didn't get through with our reservation, as we couldn't find our taxi. Fortunately, Ecim quickly called to the hotel and helped us out. Tim and I saw these things happening on street you can't describe. SO MANY MOTOBIKES and MOPEDS and SO MUCH traffic. I wouldn't recommend driving on your own ,but leave it to the locals for sure. So many foodstalls along the streets, so many vendors, and a huge contrast between the poor and the rich. It all felt enchanting and we really wonder if we feel this the same for the next few weeks.
Upon arrival in our hotel, we quickly (=90 minutes, jam karet he) tidied ourselves up and got our bags again to go to Ecims house. Lovely alleys with small houses, crammed with so much stuff, but in all, everybody seems to be happy and alive. So many cats and other animals around too, makes it so mesmerizing. After some dinner (ayam goreng), and unpacking mom's suitcase (and splitting the massive amounts of chocolate and cheese we brought) we then decided to take a stroll in the pouring rain to Grandpa, which Justin hasn't seen in 19 years. Along the way, Oom Herry (Anna's half brother) already greeted us and when we visited grandpa it was one big emotional happening. Tears all over the place, I tell you.
He really appears this old, skinny person, with a kind and mischeavous heart. He was really happy to see us, and especially since his cucu (pronounce choo-choo, grandchildren) paid him a visit as he said "You [Anna] are not important - Justin is the most important!" ! we certainly had a good time and laughter and we shared stories and photos, including photos and videos of Rowena's and Arash' wedding. He, as well as Tante Ada, was enthralled and so surprised and happy to see everybody is doing fine and how all of his grandchilds grew up. It's a pity his health is really poor.
Meanwhile, night has fallen at 6pm already (which is reasonable along the equator) and we were feeling pretty darn tired. We decided to call it a day and walked back to Ecim and later on his oldest son brought us back to the hotel. It's 11:30pm here now, and I already slept some 2 hours, before I started to snore so loud Tim woke up (oops sorry hun), so I'll take an hour break and then go to bed again. Tomorrow it will be a very emotional day, but we'll cover that up later.

My laptop is with mom now, so I can't show you yet the pictures Tim shot for us. That'll have to wait.

Zo, eerste nachtje goed geslapen hier, ondanks dat Justin weer aan 't snurken was hahaha.
Na een lange vlucht via Hong Kong zijn wij gister aangekomen op het vliegveld van Jakarta, wat was dat druk zeg! Visa gehaald en door de douane en daar werden wij opgewacht door familie van Justin!
Na een rit vol verbazingen, het verkeer dat hier kris kras door elkaar rijdt en verkopers aan de auto kwanen wij aan bij het hotel.
Even snel ingechecked en daarna naar ons kamer toe.
Nadat wij erg lang bezig waren geweest om ons op te frissen, gingen wij opweg naar het huis van Justin & Anna's familie om de rest te ontmoeten.
Wij werden erg hartelijk ontvangen met handen, knuffels, kussen en natuurlijk eten!
Na het eten, liepen wij door de regen naar het huisje van Justins opa, wat erg emotioneel voor hun alle was, het is namelijk 19 jaar geleden dat Justin zijn opa voor het laatst gezien heeft. Ook voor Anna was het een emotioneel weerzien met haar vader. Ik genoot erg van het familie gevoel en de verhalen. Opa vroeg bijv aan Jus of hij al werkte en nadat Jus daarop ja had beantwoord vroeg hij of hij dan wel geld verdiende (en knipte met zijn vingers) wat erg komisch was. Ook zei hij tegen Anna dat zij niet belangrijk was maar zijn Cucu (kleinkind) gevolgd door een lachsalvo.
Na wat eten (dat krijg je hier genoeg haha) en een kopje thee gingen wij weer opweg naar het huisje van de familie en het hotel.
Foto's van de 1e dag komen zo snel mogelijk online maar internet is niet al te snel dus even wachten daarop ;)
Vandaag gaat het wel een emotionele dag worden, het as van Justins vader/ Anna's man gaan wij uitstrooien waar hij vroeger gewoond heeft...zodat hij nu (zoals Ann het noemde in het vliegtuig) eindelijk thuis is.
Nu eten wij een ontbijtje voor wel.....€3! Morgen gaan wij ons wagen aan een echt Indonesisch ontbijt ;)
En zo even een duik nemen in het zwembad.
